Hin (หิน) Light Studies

หิน (pronounced ‘hin’) - means stone or rock in Thai.

Back in January, while sourcing stone for terrazzo floors, I purchased several small boulders from a roadside vendor in Pak Chong province. Each piece was chosen for its unique personality. Over the last couple months I cut and drilled the boulders and explored different methods of transforming their character with light. This will be an ongoing series of stone based light sculptures.

Hin (หิน) Light Study no. 1 features a volcanic looking stone whose texture is unlike any material I've ever worked with. It looks to me like something you'd find on the surface of Mars, and I love how it's rough bubbly texture pairs with the softness of the linen lampshade.

Approx. 10.5” W x 28” H. Bulb: E26 / 8.5W / 850 lumens / 3000K
